First of all, I would like to apologize for the lack of posts recently, things have been extremely busy! But things are good. I just wanted to share a quick thought with you…
Our world has certainly been changed forever. Changed by a ground breaking, earth shattering invention.. Facebook. Yes, Facebook. Social media has taken over the lives of many. We wake up, grab our phones and check for notifications on Facebook. The we periodically check throughout the day, we browse our friends status’ and photos. All while trying to upload our own.
Facebook turned into such a hit many other social networking sites have taken their turn in trying to share in the social networking fame. I must admit, the only two Sites I use is Facebook and twitter. I am still new to twitter (@troyrogers156). For all of you non- twitter users, every time someone decides to subscribe to your status updates they click a button that says “follow” then you will receive a notification that “John smith” is following you. (Kinda creepy huh?:)
The other day I was cleaning out my inbox and I came a crossed a notification that really caught my eye. The title of my email was “Jesus Christ is following you on twitter”
I (obviously curious) opened the link. I found that someone created an account that just posts words of Christ from the New Testament. And because I had “tweeted” a scripture, it linked our accounts as similar.
I share this with you for this purpose…
How are we using our Social media? It is a great way to stay connected with friends. It is a great stress relief from time to time. But, it can also be a terrible weapon. We have all seen the posts from our “friends” that trash talk others, complain about their lives, curse, and stir up drama and controversy.
I am blessed to have many friends who continually encourage me, help me refocus, and just give me a good laugh because of their posts. We have so much garbage in the world around us (especially digital) it is time that those who follow Christ use their social media in a way that Jesus would enjoy “following them”
In Him,
Troy
1 Corinthians 10:31- So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Great post, def something we need to think about when we post our status updates and tweet.
